read live startup steps
daily stepsStudents complete the following steps to pass a Read Naturally Live story.
1. Select a Story: The student selects a story to work through. 2. Key Words: The student clicks each key word to read along to the pronunciation of the word and to learn more about the word. 3. Prediction: The student uses the title, picture, and key words to write a prediction about the story. 4. Cold Timing: The student reads the selected story for the first time for one minute, marking any difficult words. Then, the computer generates a graph that shows how many words the student read correctly. YOU WILL NEED TO ENTER YOUR TEACHER PASSPORT AND DO THIS TIMING WITH THEM. The student’s goal that you set should not be reachable with the Cold Timing. If they reach it with this first reading, then you should increase their goal and/or their reading level. 5. Read Along: The student reads the story along with the audio a predetermined number of times, reading aloud quietly with the narration. 6. Practice: The student practices reading the story, without audio support, several times until able to read it accurately at the predetermined goal rate. 7. Quiz Questions: The student answers the comprehension questions. 8. Retell or Word Lists: The student retells the story. Or, in the Phonics series, the student reads word lists until able to read them accurately at a predetermined goal rate. The Word List may be a real struggle for the first-time student. Help them through it and then it becomes easier and truly helps their reading skills. If it is still a struggle, you have the ability to adjust the requirements for the Word List by giving them more time or turning it off completely. 9. Hot Timing: The student reads the story for a teacher, staff member, or other proficient reader. To pass, the student must read at his or her goal rate, using appropriate expression and making three or fewer errors. YOU WILL NEED TO ENTER YOUR TEACHER PASSPORT AND DO THIS TIMING WITH THEM. The student’s goal that is set for the program is what they should be reaching for the HOT TIMING. If they consistently reach this goal and it because easy for them, then it may be time to increase their goal so they can strive to get even better. 10. Pass: Then, the computer generates a graph that shows how many words the student read correctly. The student must also answer all comprehension questions correctly and retell the story well enough to meet the expectations set (or pass the Word List step). The kids often like to see their progress and look at their charts after they complete a story. making changes
